Feature Friday #4 – Ben Bourne

Feature Friday

Every Friday we post a ‘Feature Friday’ where we ask a few questions to a member of our team. We hope that they give you a bit of an insight into the people who make Xuper tick. Some of their answers may be surprising, others may be a bit embarrassing, but they’re individual to them.

This week’s feature is:

Ben bourne!

How long have you worked at Xuper?

3 years and 2 months

Favourite things about working within IT?

The unlimited potential for personal growth and learning . You will never know it all in IT . You can specialise in something but you will never know everything . Also , no two days are entirely alike .

What does your typical work day consist of?

Sitting in an office and sending emails is the straight answer . A fancier sounding answer might be liaising with customers and partners to ensure we deliver a high level of service at all times , leading a small team of Service Delivery experts delivering a high value service across the globe , managing procurement and logistics to ensure we meet our customer’s needs anywhere they arise and driving continuous improvement so our systems and processes are constantly growing and evolving to meet our customer’s needs . So , yeah , I sit in an office and send emails .

When did you develop an interest in IT?

When I started at Xuper . I am not a “techy” , we have enough of them in the business . I came from more of a sales and customer service background.

When did you get your first computer?

I have vague memories of “The Great Escape “ on the Commodore 64 . First computer I owned myself was a Sega Master System.

What hobbies do you have?

The usual – Films and TV , Computer Gaming , Walking , Socialising ( AKA Real Ale ) Sleep and Literature . You could say that when not working I enjoy immersion in stories of all types and concentrate on relaxation .

What is your favourite film/tv show?

Film – The Big Lebowski by the Coen brothers always brings a smile or two to my lips . TV Show – of those currently in production I would have to go with Game of Thrones. Favourite ever – The Wire / The Sopranos

Favourite band/artist/song?

Band – Oasis , Artist – Bob Dylan  Song – this is tough but let’s go with Wonderwall for that Nostalgia rush.

If you were stuck on a desert island, who would you want to be stuck with and why?

Steven Redgrave  might be a good idea , then all I would need would be a rowing boat ?

Tell us your best joke….

I don’t really do jokes . I think of myself as a funny man who it is fun to spend time with but don’t think I have ever told “a joke”. If we need a joke in the office we go to resident stand up comedian Tommy Hughes, watch this space for his infamous “Cheese Toasty Gag” on a future Feature Friday .
