Feature Friday #14 – Anne Grogan

Feature Friday

Every Friday we post a ‘Feature Friday’ where we ask a few questions to a member of our team. We hope that they give you a bit of an insight into the people who make Xuper tick. Some of their answers may be surprising, others may be a bit embarrassing, but they’re individual to them.

This week’s feature is:

How long have you worked at Xuper?

3 years

Favourite thing about working within IT?

I like that technology never stays still; it’s a fast-paced world with constant improvements and changes.

What does your typical working week consist of?

I look after admin for the International team so in a typical week I’m involved with contracts and billing and liaising with International partners.  I also make sure that we have enough supplies to keep the bean to cup coffee machine going (Xuper functions best when the coffee is flowing), and I find a volunteer and organise the supplies for the weekly Breakfast Bacon Cobs which we have every Friday.

When did you develop an interest in IT?

I started using computers in the late 80’s when I worked at a Lloyd’s Insurance Brokers – we moved from manual accounting system to computerised. Back then we had monochrome CRT monitors and mainframe computers; this was a time before email – everyone communicated by telephone, telex, fax and snail mail!

When did you get your first computer?

When I was about 12, I had a little handheld Nintendo game which had one pre-loaded game. My brother and I had different games – mine was a chef who ran backwards and forwards catching sausages and his was a fishing game; we used to try and beat each other’s score and it was addictive.

I was in my twenties before I had a home computer and even then it wasn’t connected to the internet – how did we manage without Google?

 What hobbies do you have?

I’m passionate about yarn and knitting, I know this makes me sound like a Granny but being creative feeds my soul. I enjoy good food and wine, and I love walking in Derbyshire, especially if there’s a river along the route.

What is your favourite film/TV show?

Favourite film has to be Deadpool, I’m really excited to see the sequel which is out next week.

Favourite TV show – Peaky Blinders, Detectorists, Dinnerladies, Grace and Frankie and Santa Clarita Diet.

 Favourite band/artist/song?

I really like Bruno Mars and my favourite song is Beyoncé – Love on Top

If you were stuck on a deserted island, who would you want to be stuck with and why?

It would be my worst nightmare because I prefer my home comforts such as a decent bathroom and hot running water, so I’d like to be with someone who has a functioning satellite phone so I can get off the island…

Tell us your best joke….

I love stand-up comedy but unfortunately I can never remember any jokes!
